Arme Jord Ha Jolefred
Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening has recorded the CD to raise money for people displaced by war and conflict.
The CD is a contribution to the Norwegian Refugee Council’s work for displaced people.
“Arme jord ha jolefred” contains both well-known Christmas carols and others less familiar. They are all exquisitely performed under conductor Marit Tøndel Bodsberg’s able leadership.
Christmas is a festive season to be spent together in happiness and security. Sadly, this is not a reality for everyone. Today, around 45 million people worldwide are displaced by war and conflict, more than half of them women and children. With 2,600 staff members in 20 countries, the Norwegian Refugee Council is Norway’s largest humanitarian organization in the international arena. We work toward helping ever more displaced persons to find better and more secure lives.
Singing carols at Christmas is a rich tradition, and everyone has one or more songs that he or she associates with the unique spirit of Christmas. For “Arme jord ha jolefred” we have chosen an assortment of our own favourites. Most of them are familiar and beloved carols, but we have also included several gems which many be unfamiliar to many. Some are set to folk tunes, and other melodies are taken from the Norwegian hymnal. LAWO Classics and Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening wish to make this beautiful sacred Christmas music available to every home. Arranger Tone Krohn has helped to revitalize the songs, and bassist Sigurd Hole has added new dimensions to both the musical arrangements and the tonal effect by covering the lower octaves which female voices cannot reach.
